Auction

No, its not auctioning the Club off as a going concern (and no I don't think comments like 'well its going nowhere' are constructive) but rather a real auction of Wolves memorabilia. Here is the official press release:

Ben Gamble or Dave Eglington on 01785 714905
Auctioneer uncovers family connection in rare Wolves programmes lot...

A collection of over 150 football programmes that, dating from 1947/48 through to 1968, chart the history of Wolverhampton Wanderers during the mid-20th century, is to be sold at Cuttlestones Auctioneers and Valuers new Wolverhampton Auction Rooms on Friday, 4th November.

The collection includes a particularly sought-after copy of a Wolves Vs Man Utd programme from 28th September 1957; the last match Wolves played against Manchester United’s ‘Busby’s Babes’ before the tragic Munich air crash that claimed the lives of the United squad on 6th Feb 1958 (Wolves won 3-2).

But for auctioneer Dave Eglington a piece of history far closer to home was uncovered as he examined the collection for cataloguing. A handwritten note of the goal scorers in the programme for Wolves vs Everton on 21st February 1948 lists one Tommy Eglington, who just happens to be Dave’s great uncle and who played for Everton and Northern Ireland, as one of the goal scorers; Everton went on to win the match 4-2. Dave says:

“One of the best things about this job is that you never know what’s going to come through the door next, and this was a classic example. As a keen football fan, I found this collection particularly interesting and, while I was aware that great uncle Tommy was playing for Everton in the 1940s, I certainly didn’t expect to come across a programme with his name hand written in it - albeit misspelt - as a goal scorer!

“Equally rare is the opportunity to procure a programme with direct links to the Busby’s Babes tragedy. These programmes are few and far between and attract serious collectors; examples that have sold at auction have fetched significant sums, so it will be interesting to see what this achieves in the context of such a comprehensive collection of Wolves memorabilia.”

The lot is set to come under the hammer at Cuttlestones’ Friday, 4th November 2011 Specialist Collectors’ Sale; which also happens to be the first major auction to be held at the company’s new Wolverhampton Sale Rooms on Clarence Street, off Waterloo Road. The full catalogue will be available online at www.cuttlestones.co.uk from Friday, 29th October while viewing will take place on Thursday, 3rd November between 10am and 7pm.

Commission, telephone and live internet bidding services will be available for those unable to attend on sale day. For further information visit www.cuttlestones.co.uk or call 01785 714905.

Ok so now we have had a win

Albeit not in the premiership but at least a good old win! Will this be enough to bring the boys back to earn a point or 3?

To be honest a win against Liverpool would be amazing although , as I have said previously I would rather earn just the one or even get none from the top 6 or 7 teams and take more wins with the other 12, 13 teams in the league. A rather obvious mathematical ideal, in other words the reverse of last season.

So come on Wolves, nothing to lose tomorrow, as long as we continue the wins against the rest. (Hopefully QPR was just a blip)

I have been woken!

Well, to be honest and with all due respect to the other teams, this was our first game against one of the top sides and whilst they may not be there yet they will no doubt finish somewhere in the top 6 or so. Still we do have 7 points from four games and with QPR coming to visit us next we could increase this by another 1 if not 3 points. These are the games we need to get our points from, look at last year where we beat many of the top teams and yet were unable to get much from the teams lower down in the Premiership. What did this equate to, a horrific end of season match day relying on others to make it for us! This is what I would love to see avoided this year. Sitting pretty mid table, earning the cash and continuing to develop the team to challenge for a higher finish the next year. We have survived a season now we need to build on that and hopefully MM and the whole team at WWFC will do exactly that! COME ON YOU WOLVES

Possible 10 points 4 games in

Frankly that's an amazing statement!

Whilst I agree with Mick's comment that, 'with all due respect to the teams we have played we have yet to play one of the top 6 teams' it's still every Wolves dream to have 7 already, irrelevant of who we've played.

How often do bottom of the league teams, come end of season, wish they had secured early points in the season, I know I have year on year, always looking back at the beginning of the season and regretting the easy lost points.

Well not this year! It's a great start and one which, with focus, desire and a little luck will mean we won't be sitting on the edge of our seats watching the various results coming in on the last day in the hope we survive.

This year, I hope, come end of season I'll be watching the last game without concern of relegation, and just hopeful we finish with a win.

I say this but if things keep going this well it may be just as much a white knuckled, pulsating, nerves on the edge match when a win might mean Europe, Champions League or the Premiership itself!

I know, I know, there's a long way to go yet, 35 more games, but I said in my last write up, there's always the dream and right now don't wake me!!

COME ON YOU WOLVES a win would make Gib's Wolves fans National Day celebrations all the better tomorrow!

What a start to the season!

Been away on family holiday for the start of the season only to get back to a 2 game 2 win start of the season! Perhaps I should disappear on another holiday!Would WWFC pay for this? LOL

And now another point...7 points in three games, this is looking good, hopefully no worries come end of season other than whether or not we are going to make Europe, the Champions League or win the league altogether! Some might say that's a bit hopeful, but its what we live for, the dream, and right now please don't wake me!

COME ON YOU WOLVES!

WWFC Stadium

I guess the saying, one step back and two steps forward comes to mind when watching this clip. In order to get to the finished product we do need to demolish whats there, but its still quite a shocker to watch what we know being destroyed. I guess we all need to just focus on the end product!

Here we go, here we go, here we go.......

The transfers, gossip and hearsay are still ripe but one things for sure (unless they change it) the FIXTURES are out and the games are on! All I can say is I hope we don't start how we finished against Blackburn! Come on 2011/12 this is the 'sitting pretty' season for us, happy to take 12th! COME ON YOU WOLVES!

Wolves the UK's TOP football club?

Now that the seasons over and the focus is on transfers its great to hear, or rather read, some great news on our Club! A recent survey carried out by Deloitte has brought to light Wolves success, unfortunately not success as in silverware but its a start!

For more information see BBC's article here

YES 2011/12 here we come

What a finish to the season. It really can't get closer than that, can it? We survived and can now look forward to another year in top flight football, those bmibaby flights are still looking good.

Direct Flights to the East Midlands

Great news for local Wolves fans! bmibaby will be starting flights to the East Midlands in 2012. Whilst at this time there are only three flights a week proposed, Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday, with a little luck this may well increase should there be the demand, I guess!

This will certainly make it easier for local fans to get together and travel up to Molineux to watch WOLVES IN THE PREMIERSHIP next year!

It would seem fares will begin at £39.99 so a real possibility! For more information see The Gibraltar Chronicle.

3-1 Now Bring on Blackburn

One thing is for sure, when you are struggling for survival you really want it to be in your own hands and not left to the fate of others. Wolves are, at this time, in that very scenario, thanks to their AWESOME WIN TODAY, we can survive and we need no favours.

It's fair to say that when you are at the bottom and you look around and note that a few teams have to play the leaders there is a certain comfort in that they, in theory, should probably lose, up step Blackburn and Blackpool, two close teams that need to play Man U. But I guess when you think this theory up you need to consider other important factors, 1. have they won the league yet, 2. if not what do they need and 3. do they have any other competitions to play.

So if you consider those three points I guess the answer for Man U is, 1. have not won yet, 2. v Blackburn, we need one point and then we have won the league, 3. yes, we need to play the final Champions League match against Barcelona. So guess what, they got their 1 point, they won the league and now what would you do? Play your strongest team when you have already won the league and have the chance to rest your no.1 team in order to achieve the double, yes? I wonder if they do will they be fined like Wolves were when we played them last season, I wonder...?

Call me a cynic but I guess that in all likelihood Man U's next game will include players who have yet to play in the premiership and perhaps, just perhaps Blackpool might pull it off.

But so what, Wolves have it in their hands, they don't need and favours, they only need to win and its something I am sure we all believe they can do. Two wins against our arch rivals and then Sunderland, only the one left so BRING ON BLACKBURN...WE CAN DO IT and on our own, completely.

Well done Wolves...We BELIEVE, now go do it and lets look forward to next season in the Premiership!

Karl Henry interview in local paper

Gibraltar's local daily paper, The Gibraltar Chronicle, today published an interview with Wolves captain Karl Henry (unfortunately this article is not published online).

Obviously Wolves amazing win at the weekend, it being a local derby and coupled with our move out of relegation due to it has lead to The Chronicle's belief that Wolves should be mentioned rather than the usual top teams, and rightly so! Not only is there now a Gibraltar Supporters Club for the team but also mention within our local daily! I certainly hope we can pull it off and remain outside the relegation zone for the final two games....who knows we might get another word in the our local paper!

COME ON THE WOLVES!

Monday, May 9, 2011

Now that's how you do it!

What an amazing result! 3-1 against West Brom, what a result! Its taken this long for me to get here and write something about it! A win on a Sunday will always make it impossible to write something on here until now!

Could this be just what the boys need to get through the next two games? Winning a local derby to give the boys the belief that it can be done! Of course it can be done! Now its up to MM and his team, we have no need to look for favours, all we need to do is win the next two. Possible? Of course it is! If Doyle is available, as they say he might be we now have two possibles. A little difficult for MM to decide after all Steven Fletcher has to make this call difficult, doesn't it? Oh and thank you Adlene Guedioura!

COME ON BOYS you can do this, its all to play for.

Monday, May 2, 2011

Still Possible!

Oh well, 1-1, that's the best the boys could pull off! Why oh why MM didn't take advantage of our extra man to put on a striker is beyond me. Why couldn't we have gone for a more attacking side the minute Birmingham went down to 10 men is something only MM can tell us.

Fortunately most of the games this last weekend ended in a similar fashion so its still very much to play for and it certainly looks like it really could go down to the final day.

Lets hope WWFC can pull it off and get in 3 wins!

Wolves Supporters (Alcaidesa)

There's a local sports venue which will be showing tomorrow's game live on TV so if you're a Wolves fan in the area, (including the two supporters I met yesterday at Morrison's who asked if its on anywhere) just email me at joe@gibraltarwolves.com to get the details.

Here's hoping the boys can pull it off!

The Beautiful Game?

Here's a link that an Arsenal fan (thanks Nick) sent to me which really does make a mockery of the 'Beautiful Game'. How much are these actors paid a week to do this! Why does a pro want to win by cheating? Have a look and judge for yourself...is this what you want your team to do? Click here

PS I know it has little to do with Wolves but I thought you might find it fun, annoying, entertaining or just infuriating.

Going, going.... gone?!

Not 1, not 2 but 3-0 last night! Well if you want edge of your seat stuff and need the stress of taking things to the wire then support Wolves :)

Things are not looking too good and whilst our last four games are ones that we could (and should, well need to) win, this season has proved one thing, the harder the opposition the more likely we are to win. Having beaten top flight teams makes it hard to understand why Wolves can't perform when playing teams sitting at the bottom of the table, and have you seen whose left to play? There's no Man U, Liverpool or Chelsea!

"We're in a scrap for Premier League survival, but we don't have a chance if we play like that. My teams usually compete better than that. We were bullied and beaten by the better team."

Lets hope that the likes of Birmingham, West Brom, Sunderland and Blackburn are not such bullies!

COME ON YOU WOLVES!

It's official!

Stoke v Wolves

Well it's here, our game in hand is played tonight and a win could certainly turn things around! Interestingly enough Wolves have a pretty good record against Stoke so those optimists amongst us will be pleased although the pessimistic's amongst us will probably say that its Stoke's turn to win! Either way I doubt my writing this blog will have an effect on the game so please no mention of me creating a 'mengush'

KO 8.45pm

COME ON YOU WOLVES...its high ho Wolverhampton....

Wheels - Welcome!

And our supporters club continues to grow! I am very pleased to welcome Wheels as a new Follower to this Blog. I do hope that others will follow soon and with some luck we may even organise a meet to watch one the last remaining games before the season ends!

As MM as stated, Relegation battle will go to final day, so who's up to watching that match, Wolves v Blackburn on the 22nd May? anyone?

Saturday, April 23, 2011

Not a loss!

Another game and closer to relegation! I have not seen an interview with MM yet but his belief in being able to stay up is really wearing thin...frankly. It was quite fun last week to receive a Tweet from MM guaranteeing a no lose weekend (seeing that there was no game last week) and I guess it held true this weekend too. However if WWFC don't start earning their 3 points (stating the obvious but I am sure MM will still come out saying he still believes they can stay up (not without the points you can't MM)) then this newly formed Supporters Blog will be following a Championship team next season!

COME ON MICK, COME ON WOLVES we need those points!

Welcome to the Gibraltar Wolves Supporters Blog

Welcome to the Gibraltar Wolves Supporters Blog...well I say the Gibraltar Wolves Supporters Blog but what I actually mean is my Gibraltar Wolves Supporters Blog which I hope will become, sooner rather than later, THE Gibraltar Wolves Supporters Blog!

Having supported Wolves from a young age, (pushed into it by a cousin whose bedroom was black and gold), and realising that there are a number of Wolves supporters in Gibraltar, I have taken it upon myself to start this blog in the hope of getting those individual supporters together.

If you are a Wolves fan based in Gibraltar or nearby Spain please let me know and sign on up to this blog!

Thanks,
Joe
