Auctioneer uncovers family connection in rare Wolves programmes lot...
A collection of over 150 football programmes that, dating from 1947/48 through to 1968, chart the history of Wolverhampton Wanderers during the mid-20th century, is to be sold at Cuttlestones Auctioneers and Valuers new Wolverhampton Auction Rooms on Friday, 4th November.
The collection includes a particularly sought-after copy of a Wolves Vs Man Utd programme from 28th September 1957; the last match Wolves played against Manchester United’s ‘Busby’s Babes’ before the tragic Munich air crash that claimed the lives of the United squad on 6th Feb 1958 (Wolves won 3-2).
But for auctioneer Dave Eglington a piece of history far closer to home was uncovered as he examined the collection for cataloguing. A handwritten note of the goal scorers in the programme for Wolves vs Everton on 21st February 1948 lists one Tommy Eglington, who just happens to be Dave’s great uncle and who played for Everton and Northern Ireland, as one of the goal scorers; Everton went on to win the match 4-2. Dave says:
“One of the best things about this job is that you never know what’s going to come through the door next, and this was a classic example. As a keen football fan, I found this collection particularly interesting and, while I was aware that great uncle Tommy was playing for Everton in the 1940s, I certainly didn’t expect to come across a programme with his name hand written in it - albeit misspelt - as a goal scorer!
“Equally rare is the opportunity to procure a programme with direct links to the Busby’s Babes tragedy. These programmes are few and far between and attract serious collectors; examples that have sold at auction have fetched significant sums, so it will be interesting to see what this achieves in the context of such a comprehensive collection of Wolves memorabilia.”
The lot is set to come under the hammer at Cuttlestones’ Friday, 4th November 2011 Specialist Collectors’ Sale; which also happens to be the first major auction to be held at the company’s new Wolverhampton Sale Rooms on Clarence Street, off Waterloo Road. The full catalogue will be available online at www.cuttlestones.co.uk from Friday, 29th October while viewing will take place on Thursday, 3rd November between 10am and 7pm.
Commission, telephone and live internet bidding services will be available for those unable to attend on sale day. For further information visit www.cuttlestones.co.uk or call 01785 714905.
Good luck!

Ok so now we have had a win
To be honest a win against Liverpool would be amazing although , as I have said previously I would rather earn just the one or even get none from the top 6 or 7 teams and take more wins with the other 12, 13 teams in the league. A rather obvious mathematical ideal, in other words the reverse of last season.
So come on Wolves, nothing to lose tomorrow, as long as we continue the wins against the rest. (Hopefully QPR was just a blip)

Possible 10 points 4 games in
Whilst I agree with Mick's comment that, 'with all due respect to the teams we have played we have yet to play one of the top 6 teams' it's still every Wolves dream to have 7 already, irrelevant of who we've played.
How often do bottom of the league teams, come end of season, wish they had secured early points in the season, I know I have year on year, always looking back at the beginning of the season and regretting the easy lost points.
Well not this year! It's a great start and one which, with focus, desire and a little luck will mean we won't be sitting on the edge of our seats watching the various results coming in on the last day in the hope we survive.
This year, I hope, come end of season I'll be watching the last game without concern of relegation, and just hopeful we finish with a win.
I say this but if things keep going this well it may be just as much a white knuckled, pulsating, nerves on the edge match when a win might mean Europe, Champions League or the Premiership itself!
I know, I know, there's a long way to go yet, 35 more games, but I said in my last write up, there's always the dream and right now don't wake me!!
COME ON YOU WOLVES a win would make Gib's Wolves fans National Day celebrations all the better tomorrow!

What a start to the season!
And now another point...7 points in three games, this is looking good, hopefully no worries come end of season other than whether or not we are going to make Europe, the Champions League or win the league altogether! Some might say that's a bit hopeful, but its what we live for, the dream, and right now please don't wake me!
COME ON YOU WOLVES!

3-1 Now Bring on Blackburn
It's fair to say that when you are at the bottom and you look around and note that a few teams have to play the leaders there is a certain comfort in that they, in theory, should probably lose, up step Blackburn and Blackpool, two close teams that need to play Man U. But I guess when you think this theory up you need to consider other important factors, 1. have they won the league yet, 2. if not what do they need and 3. do they have any other competitions to play.
So if you consider those three points I guess the answer for Man U is, 1. have not won yet, 2. v Blackburn, we need one point and then we have won the league, 3. yes, we need to play the final Champions League match against Barcelona. So guess what, they got their 1 point, they won the league and now what would you do? Play your strongest team when you have already won the league and have the chance to rest your no.1 team in order to achieve the double, yes? I wonder if they do will they be fined like Wolves were when we played them last season, I wonder...?
Call me a cynic but I guess that in all likelihood Man U's next game will include players who have yet to play in the premiership and perhaps, just perhaps Blackpool might pull it off.
But so what, Wolves have it in their hands, they don't need and favours, they only need to win and its something I am sure we all believe they can do. Two wins against our arch rivals and then Sunderland, only the one left so BRING ON BLACKBURN...WE CAN DO IT and on our own, completely.
Well done Wolves...We BELIEVE, now go do it and lets look forward to next season in the Premiership!

Karl Henry interview in local paper
Obviously Wolves amazing win at the weekend, it being a local derby and coupled with our move out of relegation due to it has lead to The Chronicle's belief that Wolves should be mentioned rather than the usual top teams, and rightly so! Not only is there now a Gibraltar Supporters Club for the team but also mention within our local daily! I certainly hope we can pull it off and remain outside the relegation zone for the final two games....who knows we might get another word in the our local paper!
COME ON THE WOLVES!

Now that's how you do it!
Could this be just what the boys need to get through the next two games? Winning a local derby to give the boys the belief that it can be done! Of course it can be done! Now its up to MM and his team, we have no need to look for favours, all we need to do is win the next two. Possible? Of course it is! If Doyle is available, as they say he might be we now have two possibles. A little difficult for MM to decide after all Steven Fletcher has to make this call difficult, doesn't it? Oh and thank you Adlene Guedioura!
COME ON BOYS you can do this, its all to play for.

Still Possible!
Fortunately most of the games this last weekend ended in a similar fashion so its still very much to play for and it certainly looks like it really could go down to the final day.
Lets hope WWFC can pull it off and get in 3 wins!
